Smartlipo & SlimLipo in BurlingtonAlso Serving Oakville and Hamilton

SmartLipo_SlipLipo1In addition to traditional liposuction surgery, Dr. Douglas Grace is one of the first plastic surgeons in the area to offer Smartlipo and SlimLipo — revolutionary alternatives to traditional liposuction that incorporate the use of lasers to remove stubborn pockets of fat. Laser-assisted lipolysis is less invasive than traditional liposuction, but produces natural-looking permanent results. Smartlipo and SlimLipo are considered the gold standard in laser lipolysis by leaders in the plastic surgery industry.

More about Smartlipo and SlimLipo

Smartlipo and SlimLipo can be used to remove localized areas of surplus fat that have accumulated because of pregnancy, aging or genetic factors. Smartlipo and SlimLipo are most effective when performed by an experienced plastic surgeon who understands balance and proportion and can apply these concepts to body sculpting.

Smartlipo and SlimLipo work by liquefying fat in a targeted area, coagulating the tissue and tightening the skin for a slimmer and smoother shape. Because of the special technology used, there is very little bruising and downtime after a Smartlipo or SlimLipo procedure.

These laser lipolysis systems can be used to contour the abdomen, waist, thighs, hips, chest, back, upper arms, knees and neck. They afford Dr. Grace the ultimate precision, accuracy and consistency when slimming and shaping the body.

What to Expect During the Procedure

Depending on your preference, Smartlipo or SlimLipo can be performed using general or local anesthesia. Some of our patients are leery of general anesthesia, while others prefer to be completely asleep during treatment. Dr. Grace will talk to you about your options during your initial consultation.

To begin the procedure, Dr. Grace will insert the thin cannula (about the width of an uncooked strand of angel hair pasta) into the treatment area. The cannula delivers laser energy to heat up the fat cells, causing them to melt. Once the cells have liquefied, Dr. Grace can easily remove them from the body with gentle suction. When he is satisfied with his work, he will close the incisions with sutures, and he may place a support garment to help the tissues heal.

Recovering from Smartlipo or SlimLipo

Although recovering from any plastic surgery procedure is highly individualized, most Smartlipo and SlimLipo patients recover within a day or two of their procedure. They may have minor discomfort (akin to the aches and pains after a hard workout at the gym) but this can be easily alleviated through oral pain medication.

Added Benefits of Smartlipo/SlimLipoSmartLipo_SlimLipo2

In addition to permanently destroying stubborn fat cells, laser-assisted lipolysis has other benefits. The laser seals blood vessels to reduce bleeding, post-operative bruising and swelling, and recovery time. Also, the heat from the laser promotes collagen growth for tighter, more youthful-looking skin. This is important because aging causes the production of collagen to slow down, which can contribute to skin wrinkling and sagging. Stimulating collagen growth helps the skin look more youthful and toned.
