Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)

Ask us about Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP)

Are you interested in having a more youthful appearance to your skin?
After PRP, patients may notice improvement in wrinkles, sagging skin, deep creases, diminished acne scars, and overall improvement of their complexion.

Are you interested in PRP for thinning hair or hair loss?
After PRP, patients may notice losing less or minimal amount of hair, and soon after they begin to see an increase in thickness or eventual regrowth.

Why choose PRP?

PRP results in a natural, rejuvenated appearance as it uses your own blood product to stimulate healing. This may be achieved with or without the additional use of Botox or dermal filler.

What exactly is PRP?

PRP is a concentrated solution of plasma, enriched with platelets, taken from a sample of your blood. PRP contains growth factors that stimulate collagen growth for healthier skin. After PRP is injected under the skin using a small needle, the amount of collagen increases as does the skin’s ability to retain moisture- this can result in an improvement in the texture and appearance of your skin.

PRP for hair loss increases the blood supply to the hair follicle, which may result in increased hair thickness and decreased hair loss in men and women. PRP may also be effective in stimulating hair growth due to loss after pregnancy, post-menopause or from stress, as long as the hair follicle is still alive.

What are PRP treatments like?

If you are interested in having PRP to treat signs of aging skin, or hair loss, here’s what to expect:
1. A small amount of blood (2-4 tablespoons) will be drawn from your arm.
2. The test tube containing your blood is placed in a machine that separates the plasma (platelet rich) from the rest of your blood.
3. Numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area to decrease discomfort from the injections.
4. Your clinician will inject the plasma, that contains the high concentration of platelets into your face or scalp, using a syringe and a small needle. To give you immediate results, your clinician may also recommend dermal filler injections.
5. The entire treatment time takes about 45-60 minutes.

What should I expect after treatment?

Right after your PRP treatment, you may experience some swelling, redness and tenderness on the area that was treated. The swelling and redness typically resolve within 24 hours. A small amount of bruising may occur and may last two to three days typically.
Patient report optimal signs of improvement after 3 treatments, at least 1 month apart, and as early as after the first treatment.

You may start seeing improvements in your skin texture and tone after about three weeks. It takes a little time for the platelets injected into your skin to release the growth factors that help improve your skin’s appearance. Your skin will continue improving in appearance over the following weeks and months as the cells in your skin regenerate, giving you a more youthful look.

It is recommended that you have PRP treatment once a month for the initial three to four months for optimal results. Following this initial treatment stage, it is recommended to have PRP every six to 12 months.

Who can have PRP?

While PRP is considered safe for most people, it’s not recommended for anyone who has one of the following medical conditions: Hepatitis C, HIV or Aids, any type of blood cancer, skin cancer in the area to be treated, currently undergoing chemotherapy or radiation, or if taking a blood-thinning medication.
