5 Ways to Revamp Your Skincare Routine For Summer

Summer skincare is no less important than winter skincare, but it does require a different approach. When warmer weather hits, most people need to shift their focus from fighting dryness to dealing with excess oil and avoiding UV radiation. By using the five tips below, you can keep your complexion flawless all summer long:

 1. Put prevention first.

Though the sun can create a temporary glow, its long-term effects are anything but flattering: Researchers estimate that up to 90% of the visible signs of aging result from UV damage. UV radiation causes essential proteins in the skin, like collagen and elastin, to break down. Over time, this harmful process weakens the skin, leading to the development of wrinkles, sagging skin, and texture and pigmentation problems. Preventing UV exposure should, therefore, be the foundation of any summer skincare routine.  

Despite the prevalence of sunscreen use, UV damage remains a significant threat. Most people apply the wrong type of sunscreen to meet their needs or forget to apply sunscreen often enough. Habits like intentional tanning also increase your risk of harmful exposure, even if you use sunscreen. (No sunscreen can filter out 100% of the sun’s rays, so using physical barriers like hats and clothing is necessary for complete protection.)
