What Does Body Sculpting Address?

Body sculpting procedures improve the appearance of multiple areas in the mid and lower body. There is a procedure designed to contour almost every trouble spot that keeps you from looking your best, including the:

  • Stomach
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Buttocks
  • Back
  • Upper arms
  • Neck

Dr. Grace uses his keen sense of balance and proportion to reshape and sculpt the areas of the body so you can feel confident about the way you look – no matter what you’re wearing. Our goal is to create natural-looking results that reflect your best self.

Treatment Designed to Meet Your Unique Needs

Everyone has different areas of concern, as well as different concepts of beauty. Dr. Grace listens to you identify the parts of your body that you don’t like and asks you to describe your ideal cosmetic outcome. He then formulates a plan to address your concerns.

Your individualized treatment plan could involve liposuction to remove localized fat pockets from the body or a tummy tuck, which corrects the effects of pregnancy, weight fluctuation, or aging. If you would like to simultaneously correct pregnancy-related changes in your breasts and abdomen, Dr. Grace recommends mommy makeover surgery.

Body Contouring Procedures:

Liposuction

Liposuction is one of the safest, most comfortable body contouring procedures in use today—and it remains one of the most effective ways of removing unwanted fat. During liposuction, fat is liquefied with a special solution that also contains a local anesthetic. This ensures that the procedure is comfortable and doesn’t require the use of general anesthesia. Patients don’t experience any grogginess or tiredness after this procedure. Fat is then removed from the body through a thin tube called a cannula. Liposuction can be used virtually anywhere on the face or body, and it’s ideal for removing large areas of unwanted fat. It produces immediate results, and the fat removed by liposuction will never return.

Smartlipo

Dr. Grace offers both SmartLipo and SlimLipo, as well as traditional liposuction. Instead of using a liquefying solution to prepare fat for removal, these procedures use laser energy to heat and melt fat before extraction. Fat is then removed from the body via an extremely thin microcannula. Using a cannula this fine prevents scarring, pain, bruising, and swelling. The use of laser energy, rather than a liquefying solution, confers other benefits, too: SmartLipo and SlimLipo increase the production of collagen and elastin in treated areas. This improves skin firmness and minimizes the possibility of dimples or lumps developing after the procedure.

BodyJet liposuction

BodyJet liposuction is unique among fat removal procedures because it does not damage or destroy fat cells. Instead, it gently irrigates them with water before they are carefully removed via a thin tube. Not only does this result in less post-procedure bruising and swelling, but it also allows the fat that’s harvested to be reused. For this reason, BodyJet lipo pairs perfectly with fat transfer procedures to enhance your natural curves.

Vanquish

Vanquish is a non-surgical treatment uses high-frequency radio waves (RF energy) to heat fat cells until the lipids within them break down. RF energy is safe and gentle, making this procedure as comfortable as it is effective. Once fat cells are destroyed by Vanquish, the body slowly excretes them over a period of two months—and this removal is permanent. Fat cells destroyed by Vanquish do not grow back. After this process is complete, you’ll notice a 24% reduction in the volume of fat in treated areas. In real terms, this often translates into two to three inches being taken off the waist, thighs, or hips.

The RF energy used to destroy fat cells during Vanquish treatment also increases the production of two skin-firming compounds, collagen and elastin. Over the months following this procedure, patients notice a gradual improvement in the tightness and smoothness of their skin.

Exilis Elite

Exilis Elite uses monopolar radiofrequency energy to prompt a rapid, profound increase in the production of collagen in treated areas. This completely nonsurgical procedure, which boasts zero downtime, can dramatically tighten the skin in treated areas. It can be used to get rid of lines, wrinkles, folds, and patches of “crepey” skin practically anywhere on the face and body.

Tummy Tuck Surgery

Tummy tuck surgery (professionally known as abdominoplasty) is a plastic surgery procedure used to remove unwanted abdominal fat, tighten loose skin on the stomach, and repair damaged abdominal muscles. Tummy tuck surgery is often needed to correct the effects created by pregnancy or a history of obesity. Not only does this procedure produce cosmetic improvements in the appearance of the stomach, but it also safeguards them from future medical complications, like repeat ventral hernias and lack of supportive muscle structure.

Body Sculpting in Burlington: What to Expect

Dr. Grace believes that a happy patient is an informed patient and guides you through every step of your surgical experience to ensure you understand what to expect. The procedural details depend on the chosen procedure(s) and the specific treatment plan.

In general, body sculpting surgery is performed on an outpatient basis. You will be able to leave the surgical facility shortly after your procedure to recover at home.

Nonsurgical body sculpting procedures do not require any incisions. When performing surgical procedures, Dr. Grace makes surgical incisions in a pre-determined location, being careful to place them where the natural curves of the body will conceal any scarring. Through the incisions, he removes excess fat and skin, tightens the remaining skin and modifies the body’s tissues to create a more pleasing shape. When he’s finished, he closes the incisions and applies surgical dressings.

Recovering from Body Sculpting

The body sculpting recovery period varies, depending on the procedure(s) that Dr. Grace has performed. Most nonsurgical procedures, like Vanquish and Exilis Elite, require absolutely no recovery time—that’s what makes them so popular with our patients in Toronto, many of whom are busy professionals with little time to spare. Minimally invasive procedures, such as SmartLipo, SlimLipo, and BodyJet liposuction, come with a brief recovery period of just three to five days.

In general, patients who have had surgical body sculpting procedures need to take about two weeks off work and their normal activities. During the initial recovery, the treated area may be sore (though this is unusual with liposuction; most patients report that recovery from liposuction is quite comfortable), swollen, bruised, tender or numb. Any discomfort can be controlled with prescription pain medication. It’s crucial to rest and relax (gentle walking is OK) and avoid strenuous movement, including bending and lifting. Note that tummy tuck surgery is an exception to these guidelines; because the muscles and connective tissues within the abdomen are sutured so they can heal, patients often need three to four weeks to heal completely. They’re also unable to lift more than 25 pounds for at least one month after having this procedure, sometimes two months. If you want to have tummy tuck surgery, Dr. Grace will develop a detailed recovery plan to accommodate these adjustments.

No matter which procedure you choose, you can rest assured that you’re in good in hands when it comes to aftercare. Dr. Grace schedules several follow-up visits to check the treatment area and answer any questions. He also advises when it is safe to resume work, exercise, and other daily activities for the best outcome.

Body Sculpting Results

Once the side effects have subsided, and swelling has diminished, your body sculpting results will become visible. Your abdomen will look tighter and firmer, or your hips, thighs, and buttocks may look slimmer, depending on what you had corrected. Your skin will also be taught and firm around your curves for a more youthful appearance.

Keep in mind is that body sculpting surgery may leave faint scarring. There are products that you can use, however, to minimize scarring. Most patients, however, find that this does not detract from the benefits they enjoy after their treatments, such as increased confidence and a sense of well-being.
