Body Contouring Procedures:
Body Sculpting: What to Expect
Dr. Grace believes that a happy patient is an informed patient, and he will guide you through every step of your surgical experience to ensure that you understand what to expect. The procedural details will depend on the chosen procedure(s) and the specific treatment plan.
In general, body sculpting surgery in Burlington is performed on an outpatient basis. You will be able to leave the surgical facility shortly after your procedure to recover at home. Anesthesia is administered to prevent you from feeling any pain during surgery.
Dr. Grace makes the surgical incisions in a pre-determined location, being careful to place them where the natural curves of the body will conceal any scarring. Through the incisions, he removes excess fat and skin, tightens the remaining skin and modifies the body’s tissues to create a more pleasing shape. When he’s finished, he closes the incisions and applies surgical dressings.
Recovering from Body Sculpting
The body sculpting recovery period varies, depending on the procedure(s) that Dr. Grace performed. In general, our patients take about two weeks off from work and their normal activities.
During the initial recovery, the treated area may be sore, swollen, bruised, tender or numb. Any discomfort can be controlled with prescription pain medication. It’s crucial to rest and relax (gentle walking is OK) and avoid strenuous movement, including bending and lifting. Dr. Grace will schedule several follow-up visits to check the treatment area and answer any questions. He will also advise when it is safe to resume work, exercise and other daily activities.
Body Sculpting Results
Once the side effects have subsided and swelling has diminished, your body sculpting results will become visible. Your abdomen may look tighter and firmer, or your hips, thighs and/or buttocks may look slimmer, depending on what you had corrected. Your skin will also fit more tightly around your curves for a more youthful appearance.
Something to keep in mind is that body sculpting surgery may leave faint scarring. Although Dr. Grace takes great care when making surgical incisions, the resulting scarring may never completely disappear. There are products that you can use, however, to minimize scarring.
